CFOA Blitz 2025 – One Weekend with Aboveground
The CFOA Blitz 2025 was a fast paced, local tournament in North Carolina. I flew into the U.S. a week before layout drop for WNXL Ohio to train with Jenn, and while I was there, a new opportunity came up. Blitz guarantees three prelim matches per team, each consisting of three three-minute points. Every point counts, and the teams with the highest total scores move on to playoffs.
When one of their players got injured, I got the chance to guest with Aboveground (Underground). That meant stepping onto the field with Jenn and Chaz Fulk, Matt Davies (aka Matt the Gym Rat), Josh Maffeo, Alex Kvasnicka, and Jake “Tall Tee” Summers. Since it was my first time with the squad, and they were using this as warm-up for their Ohio event, I didn’t expect to play much. I just wanted to be part of it, learn from them, and enjoy the experience.

During our first match, Chaz called me in for the third point and told me to shoot and push up the center. Instead, I panicked. I broke to the Dorito side, got clipped quickly, and sat out the next match. That moment hit hard, I was disappointed in myself and knew I had to reset mentally.
I got another shot in our third match. This time, I went snake side, stayed calm, and landed some solid kills. We ended prelims four points up, and it was enough to qualify for finals.
In the last match, we faced Howlers. We took the first point, stalemated the second, and knew what needed to happen next: stop their push. We dug in, held them off, and secured the win.

Massive thanks to Jenn and Chaz for trusting me with this opportunity. Playing with Aboveground, even for one weekend, was a dream I didn’t know would come true and I’ll always be grateful for that shot.
