PABLO HEADBANDS
“Pablo, My Loyal Training Partner”
While others dreamed of parties and video games, I dreamed of paintball fields, strategy, speed, trophies, and medals. My journey had already begun thanks to my family support, I was playing local tournaments with the Medusas team but the problem was that we all lived in different cities and could never train together.
Train harder
I knew that if I wanted to achieve all my dreams, I had to go further, train harder not just because I was a girl in a male dominated world, but also because in Colombia, paintball is not an easy sport to practice. It’s expensive, and paintball fields are hard to find. My field was outside the city and my dad would drive an hour and a half just to get me there, that was something not everyone was willing to do. Many times, I found myself alone on the field, with no one to train with. My dad couldn’t play anymore, he just would teach me and correct every move in the sport I loved so much and that’s when “PABLO” appeared.
“Pablo”
PABLO was a 20cm duck figure attached to a metal rod. At first, he was just a piece of metal but for me, he became so much more. He was my training partner, my rival. I could see in him all those great players who inspired me, whom I admired and respected but who were also the opponents I had to beat to fulfill my dreams.
I trained with PABLO for a long time. He was always there for me. Even when I started training with other players, I always stayed behind to train with him.
In decisive moments, I always remembered all my days alone on the field, the long training sessions, and my dad’s voice telling me that all the effort and sacrifice would be worth it someday.
“A very special gift”
When I started playing with Heroines, my teammate Katie Kelley gave me a small rubber duck she found in her drink at a restaurant without knowing what that figure meant to me. That duck became the lucky charm I always carry with me.
Today, I’m playing in the highest category of paintball, alongside the best in the world the WNXL, And even though now I have a team, many friends, sponsors, and I’ve won every trophy and medal I dreamed of, PABLO is still here, not as a target or a piece of metal, but as a symbol. I always wear him on my HEADBANDS as a reminder that with hard work and discipline, dreams do come true; that even in solitude, if you keep going and aim high, everything will be alright because even the loneliest dreams can fly.
